Journalism & Blogging - The Motivation

With the sheer deluge of blogs already in existence, it can be difficult to justify one more being created. It was for this reason that it took me so long to begin my own (as a third-year University student of Communication and Media, I should really have pursued with a personal blog some years ago).

I have ambitions to enter music journalism, in a written or broadcast capacity. I enjoy the idea of being a person that brings news to the world in their own words. To harbour such ambitions and begin writing as an amateur journalist though requires significant self-belief: it suggests that you believe you are not only a skilled writer, but have a voice that needs to be heard.

My reluctance to consistently practice my ambitions (before I began Cristal Palace last month, I had false starts with two short-lived blog websites) stems from the fear of not reaching my intended audience, or that they aren’t interested in my writing. If I don’t take the chance, though, how will I ever know if I’m right or wrong?

The cliche of practice making perfect still rings true, and is why I have finally decided to properly pursue my blog and a career as a journalist. Although there will still be occasional posts of all things Crystal Palace and hiphop, I will be building up my writing portfolio in the next few months covering various topics.
